Innovation at work
Innovation needs to be aligned with the corporate strategy and its agenda, only then can it help organisations enable, empower and deliver outcomes.
Most organisations are still struggling to find parallels between corporate strategy and innovation strategy. This absence of alignment creates ambiguity and uncertainty when making strategic decisions in assessing innovation potential and in dispersing funds and investments foe new projects. This leads strategists and executives to make "blind bets", that serves as the basis for accidental innovation rather than repeatable innovation.
The main reasons for the misalignment are:
- "Shiny new thing" syndrome rather than what fits the corporate strategy
- Personal agenda rather than an organisational benefit
- Lack of clear corporate vision and strategy
- Ambiguous innovation strategy does not help anyone
- Absence of real-world context and reality check
